AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (XOL Africa) — The Eritrean community in the Netherlands held a two-day cultural festival in Amsterdam on July 18 and 19, featuring sports competitions, traditional clothing fashion shows, children’s programs and cultural performances.
The festival was officially opened by Negasi Kassa, Eritrea’s ambassador to the European Union and the Benelux countries.
Zerai Gebru, chairman of the Eritrean Community, and Isak Minasie, head of public and community affairs, said the festivals demonstrated the “strong unity and resilience” of the Eritrean people. They also extended congratulations to the Eritrean people and government.
Kibreab Tewolde, head of consular affairs, said participation in the festival reflected citizens’ responsibility to contribute to Eritrea’s development projects.
Ambassador Kassa also addressed participants at a seminar covering developments in Eritrea, regional and global affairs, and the role of Eritrean communities in supporting national development programs.
The festival included sporting events, traditional fashion displays, children’s activities and cultural and artistic performances by a troupe from Eritrea, among other activities.
