NORTH MIAMI, Fla. (XOL Africa) — Taste of AfriKin, an annual celebration of African and Caribbean food and culture, will return to North Miami on Sept. 6 as part of Miami Spice 2026.

The AfriKin Foundation said the festival will take place at Maison AfriKin from 6 to 9 p.m. on Labor Day weekend, in partnership with the Greater Miami Convention & Visitors Bureau and the City of North Miami.

The event will bring together food, live music, visual art and community programming, with culinary traditions from 15 countries represented during the evening.

A centerpiece of the festival will be the Jollof Cook-Off, a live competition featuring chefs from West Africa and the Caribbean preparing their own versions of the popular rice dish for evaluation by attendees.

The participating countries are the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cabo Verde, Eritrea, Ghana, Haiti, Jamaica, Martinique, Nigeria, Senegal, Sint Maarten, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago and the United States.

The program will also feature food and beverage stations showcasing the participating culinary traditions.

Music performances will include the Rozz Parker Band from the United States, with saxophonist Connis Vanterpool of Sint Maarten opening the program. Jamaican reggae performer Binghi Blaze, Nigerian vocalist Jerilyn Davis and Jamaican fire dancer Nadia Sol are also scheduled to perform.

Guest DJ and host Fonz will close the event with a set featuring Afrobeat, Amapiano, soca and gwo ka.

Organizers said the program will also include a limbo competition and an art exhibition running concurrently with the festival.

The exhibition, “Art and the Beautiful Game: Africa on the World Stage,” will remain on display at Maison AfriKin. It includes a 48-piece “Flying Calabash” collection by Togolese-born artist Bamazi Talle, along with works by other artists that will be available for purchase.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. General admission tickets are listed at $55, while VIP admission costs $125 and reserved tables for eight are $440. Organizers said presale tickets have sold out and that day-of-event prices could be higher if tickets remain available.

Free parking will be provided, and the event is open to all ages.

Taste of AfriKin will be held at Maison AfriKin, 1600 NE 126th St. in North Miami, located between Aventura, Miami Shores and Bal Harbour.

The AfriKin Foundation, a North Miami-based nonprofit cultural organization, produces events including the annual AfriKin Art Fair, African Fashion Week Miami and Taste of AfriKin.

The organization said Taste of AfriKin is intended to highlight the connections between African and Caribbean communities through food, music, art and cultural exchange.

AfriKin Foundation was founded by Alfonso D. Brooks and operates from Maison AfriKin at the Scott Galvin Community Center. The organization is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

The festival is part of the broader Miami Spice season, which promotes culinary experiences and tourism across the Miami area.
