TotalEnergies to Cut Diesel Prices in France by About 10 Cents per Litre

PARIS, Oct. 13, 2026 — TotalEnergies will pass on savings from the release of France’s strategic diesel reserves to consumers, offering an estimated discount of 10 euro cents per litre at its service stations from Nov. 1 through Jan. 31, 2027.

The company announced the measures on Monday following a meeting between the French government and fuel distributors at Matignon, the prime minister’s official residence.

The plan also includes discounts for farmers, fishermen, public works companies and households using heating oil, as France seeks to ease the impact of rising fuel costs.

TotalEnergies said the benefit at its approximately 3,300 service stations would depend on movements in international diesel markets. Based on current market prices, diesel could sell for between €2.15 and €2.20 per litre, below the company’s existing price cap of €2.25 per litre.

The company said most of its service stations were currently selling diesel at the cap.

TotalEnergies will maintain the €2.25-per-litre ceiling beyond January 2027, even after the benefit associated with releasing strategic stocks expires, according to the statement.

The company said its allocation of strategic reserves would be based on its 2025 market share of 23% in service station distribution, compared with more than 30% currently. The arrangement is intended to allow competing fuel distributors to access a proportionally larger share of the released stocks.

For farmers, fishermen and public works companies, TotalEnergies will offer a discount of €0.20 per litre on non-road diesel, known in France as gazole non routier (GNR). The reduction will be calculated against the international diesel market price.

The company, which said it accounts for 35% of France’s general diesel market, will also offer customers using domestic heating oil a discount of €200 per cubic metre from Nov. 1.

All three measures will run for three months, until Jan. 31, 2027.

TotalEnergies operates in about 120 countries and employs more than 100,000 people. Its business spans oil and biofuels, natural gas, biogas, low-carbon hydrogen, renewable energy and electricity.
