Agency Report –

Carmaker Opel wants to build engines at a planned plant in Algeria, the company said on Friday.

The Stellantis subsidiary said at the German-Algerian business forum in Berlin that it had submitted a declaration of intent to go ahead with the factory.

Opel would become the first carmaker to produce engines locally in Algeria. The plant is to manufacture cars for local demand in the North African country.

The move “represents a strategic milestone as we continue to expand our international footprint beyond Europe,” said Opel chief executive Florian Huettl, in a press release.
