BAMAKO, Mali — September 7, 2026 (XOL Africa) — Energy storage company DoGo Power has expanded into Mali, introducing grid-forming energy storage systems aimed at strengthening power reliability and supporting the country’s shift toward cleaner energy.
The company said its solutions will target both commercial and industrial (C&I) customers and utility-scale power projects, with an emphasis on adapting energy storage technology to Mali’s weak-grid and off-grid conditions.
Mali continues to face significant electricity-access and reliability challenges. According to DoGo Power, national electrification remains below 50%, while rural coverage is below 30%. More than 80% of the country’s power generation is also reportedly dependent on diesel fuel, leaving consumers and businesses exposed to high generation costs and frequent supply disruptions.
At the same time, Mali has a strong renewable-energy resource. The country receives more than 3,000 hours of sunshine annually, creating substantial potential for solar generation paired with battery energy storage.
Grid-forming storage for weak grids
DoGo Power says its grid-forming energy storage technology is designed to provide backup power for critical loads during grid instability and outages.
The systems can also be integrated into solar-plus-storage-diesel hybrid configurations, allowing businesses and power operators to reduce diesel consumption while increasing the share of renewable electricity used.
The approach could be particularly relevant in Mali, where unreliable grid infrastructure and dependence on diesel generation remain obstacles to expanding affordable and reliable electricity access.
Unlike conventional battery systems that primarily follow an existing grid signal, grid-forming systems can help establish and maintain key electrical characteristics of a power network. This makes the technology potentially valuable for isolated networks and grids with high shares of variable renewable generation.
Localisation at the centre of Africa strategy
DoGo Power said its entry into Mali is part of a broader African expansion strategy built around local partnerships, technical support and service capabilities.
The company plans to work with local industry partners and establish service and technical support teams covering solution design, delivery, operations and maintenance.
Its first batch of products is already arriving at port in Mali, according to the company.
The expansion comes as African power markets increasingly look to battery storage to address the limitations of conventional generation and accelerate renewable-energy deployment. For countries such as Mali, where solar resources are abundant but grid infrastructure remains constrained, energy storage can play a role in linking new renewable generation with more reliable electricity supply.
DoGo Power said it intends to further develop its presence in Mali and other African markets, using localised solutions to support the development of a more stable and lower-carbon power system.
