Terra Industries wins $1million contract to secure Nigerian mining project

Terra Industries has secured a $1 million phase-one contract from Anka Metals to provide autonomous security and surveillance at the Jema’a Resource Project in Kaduna, Nigeria, as development of one of the country’s most significant multi-metallic deposits advances.

The contract is Terra’s first under a broader partnership with Anka Metals covering security across the mining company’s portfolio, marking an expansion of the African technology company’s commercial operations beyond defence applications.

The Jema’a project, located at Gidan Waya, contains deposits of gold, lithium, copper and nickel. Its development has gained momentum following agreements signed in July between the project and the Kaduna Mining Development Company with the Africa Finance Corporation under a $500 million framework to finance and develop mining assets in the state.

Terra said its role would include autonomous surveillance and site protection, targeting the security challenges faced by operators developing remote infrastructure in regions where conventional security coverage can be limited and emergency response times lengthy.

“Securing these sites is a priority as development moves forward,” Terra said in announcing the award.

The company said the systems deployed for Anka Metals would draw on the same autonomous technology stack it supplies to defence customers, adapted for commercial applications including mining, oil and power infrastructure.

The agreement highlights a growing overlap between defence technology and the protection of critical economic infrastructure in Africa, where mining projects are increasingly being developed in remote locations and operators face both physical security risks and the high cost of maintaining personnel-intensive protection.

For Terra, the contract provides an early commercial deployment of its autonomous surveillance capabilities in the natural-resources sector and establishes a potential route to further work across Anka Metals’ mining portfolio.

Terra Industries, founded in 2024, describes itself as a multi-domain systems and data-intelligence company focused on defence and critical infrastructure markets in Africa and the Global South. Its technology integrates air, land and maritime systems through ArtemisOS, a unified software platform designed for large-scale security operations.

The company works with governments, infrastructure operators and strategic partners across Africa and internationally, with activities spanning energy, mineral resources, urban infrastructure, maritime assets, border security and counterterrorism.
